What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I have been working for the company for more than sixteen years, accompanied by an extraordinary group of people and professionals who are experts not only in corporate or financial legal matters but also experts in the insurance and health business. Our division is a key player in corporate, insurance and health advice, as well as in legal defence. Our role is strategic because we identify the legal and regulatory risks, measure the impacts together with the business areas, establish action plans and execute them. In 2018, we were recognised as one of the companies that had the best Corporate Governance practices in Peru. Therefore, we formed part of the Corporate Governance Index of the Lima Stock Exchange and we have been part of this index for two years in a row. In 2020, the Lima Stock Exchange transformed this Index into the Sustainability Index which aim is to assess the sustainability of companies’ practises. At present, we are the only insurance company in Peru that is part of this index.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

In our division we had gone ahead of time prior to the pandemic by digitising ourselves for updating, reviewing and monitoring regulations, as well as for the formalisation and signing of contracts. This allowed us to maintain a good support service required by the different areas of the company. For this reason, we are planning to maintain hybrid work.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

My company began a process of digital transformation and agile processes a few years ago, so we are largely organised.
