What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The most challenging actions as legal manager have undoubtedly been during Covid-19. It has required us to analyse and propose alternatives aimed at protecting the interests of the organisation and that at the same time are within the framework of legality, always seeking the well-being of the team.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

The pandemic has brought many changes involving both form and substance, I would say. For example, the adoption of digital tools such as the use of platforms for communication, the subscription of contracts, and to carry out hearings or due diligence, amongst others. In the background, the innovation required to convert a support area to a productive area, knowing the operation of other areas and often having to show flexibility in customer service to contribute to the quality and care of the service.

What are some of the key developments – legal, geopolitical, or otherwise – that have affected your business over the past year?

In the face of the political changes that the country has suffered, the rules issued by the government of the day, have socialist nuances, which have directly impacted the business, considering restrictions on activities that somehow evaluate or reconsider going to outsourcing schemes for wanting to avoid being involved as parts of administrative processes driven by the state, where it will analyse compliance with the standard.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Innovation undoubtedly is the biggest thing to look out for. The use of information technology for the optimisation of processes, administration of justice, the efficiency of resources, and so on, that may be contained or supported by technology will have a leading role in the performance of in-house lawyers in any organisation.
