What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

In 2021, the in-house team had direct involvement in the definition of the structure and negotiation of the terms of the contracts for the selling of the company’s operations in Argentina and Brazil. Regarding our efforts to constantly enhance our compliance standards, in 2022 we obtained the ISO 37001 certification for our antibribery system for our main operation in Peru, while we continue to implement compliance best practices for all our operations.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

Virtual meetings, hearings and procedures before governmental authorities through electronic or digital means are now “business as usual”. The possibility of attending meetings in this way in most cases has improved efficiency as the time involved in commuting for such meetings or hearings can be used for more productive work.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Some technology I think will impact our role would be legal chat bots, smart contracts and intelligent archives. In the near future, these will allow legal teams to focus on more strategic and value-added services .
