How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?
With our commitment to employee wellbeing, PepsiCo had already established flexible work policies prior to the pandemic. However, we had to develop more effective way of work and communication with new challenges caused by the pandemic. In-house legal teams are required to prepare for the new era of digital advancements with agile attitude.
What are some of the key developments – legal, geopolitical or otherwise – that have affected your business over the past year?
Given the current political climate of Peru, our focus is to maintain a seamless operation of business. Our legal team works together with business partners as a multifunctional team to control risks and understand the political and economic impact of current climate to support the company during this challenge time.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
Technological advancements not only involve the implementation of infrastructure including contract administration and elaboration software but also require changing the way to communicate with customers, clients, and stakeholders. We support this transformation by explaining the new regulations to business functions to prepare them with necessary knowledge and practice. For instance, with the introduction of new payment applications, we initiated the new conversation about multiverse with our clients on behalf of the company.
