Focus on the role of a legal manager in overcoming challenges

I worked for about 11 years in one of the most important telecommunications companies in the country, where in addition to developing myself personally and professionally, I made great friends.

In August 2019 I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take on a rather interesting challenge for me, as legal manager of Nissan Peru.

During the pandemic, several rules and regulations were modified and implemented by the Peruvian Government, which impacted the automotive sector and which I had the challenge to lead in the legal area, such as the review and renegotiation of previously concluded contracts.

As part of the reactivation of the sectors, new laws had to be implemented in order to restart economic activities, such as the surveillance, prevention, and control plan of Covid-19 of Nissan Peru. In the meantime, we were looking for solutions on how to support the government in overcoming this crisis. As a result, in April 2020, Nissan Peru entered into loan contracts in order for the Ministry of Health to have the brand’s vehicles as a loan for the transfer of infected patients.

The legal area also participated in the planning of commercial strategies to positively face the reactivation of the automotive sector, which has allowed me to develop not only my knowledge and legal experience, but also to understand and apprehend strategic aspects of the brand in the country.

All this represented an enormous challenge for my work as a corporate lawyer of Nissan Peru, since we had to be fully aware of each of the regulatory modifications, as well as the new legislations issued.

Today, after two years and ten months, I can undoubtedly confirm that assuming the legal management of Nissan in times of pandemic has been a great challenge in my professional life as well as rewarding, because we were able to successfully face the commercial demands caused by the Covid-19 crisis, without legal contingencies for the Peruvian operation.
