What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
Given the complex political and legislative dynamics that we have experienced in Peru over the last year, the biggest challenge has been to find sufficient capacity and flexibility to try to adapt to these dynamics while trying to avoid negative impacts on the organisation. We must remember that in Peru, there is still a lot to be done in terms of reducing the rural digital divide, and we expect the authorities to encourage this reduction. All of this, of course, generated complex situations and legitimate questions about its rationality, as laws were issued that could cause serious damage to the company and the industry in general. And even in this complex scenario in our country, we were able to carry out very important transactions for the company, such as the sale of our data centers, in Peru and Chile, to one of the largest technology companies in the world, who entered both countries through a complex operation that was valued at more than $700m.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
It will undoubtedly be AI. As Entel is a technology company, we have a responsibility to be at the forefront in this regard and, therefore, integrating these types of tools into our daily work is something we have been working on with the Entel Innovation team. In this regard, I firmly believe that our legal team is one of the few large companies in Peru that has formally adopted, in its annual plan, artificial intelligence as part of its continuous improvement process. On this path, we will not only create operational efficiencies, but also provide a better experience for our internal customers and clients.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
At Entel we always seek to positively impact our clients at all levels, and that is even more relevant for our legal team. We consider ourselves a strategic support area for the company that works very close to the business, so we must understand its dynamics in detail to offer a valuable service with business vision. We are a flexible and adaptable team, but also energetic and assertive when necessary. We are very aware of our strategic role and our responsibility, as we are always part of the company’s most important business.
We know that technology changes the way we do things very quickly, even more so in our industry, and this not only has an impact on the services we provide, but also on the way we make them available to our clients. Therefore, it is our responsibility to adapt quickly and be part of the technological transformation that the telecommunications industry and legal areas have been undergoing.
