What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

The most important challenges have come from two different fronts: firstly, the regulatory landscape, which has been very active recently, and with technology being a fast-moving field, sometimes regulation, even well-intentioned, might prevent it from keeping pace with the industry. So, a good balance is needed. The other front is political, we have seen some changes at the top of government and, along with that, some social unrest has been affecting the economy and day-to-day business activities.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Definitely artificial intelligence. It will not only benefit the role of in-house legal teams, but all business and day-to-day activities. AI is already embedded in many tools we use today, but with the latest breakthrough in generative AI it will be included in further activities, and with more areas of application. Alongside this, the return to work in the “new normal reality”, especially in hybrid models, will also be an area to be defined with the help of technology.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

The regulatory landscape, as discussed previously, and promoting the right balance between regulation and the modernisation in the region.
