What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
The number one challenge has been to lead the legal support and advice to the business, which has allowed it to maintain its path of sustained growth in market share, placements and profit generation, without neglecting the inclusive role that the company has in the country in the midst of a complex external political and economic situation, which also included the change of members of the bank’s board of directors and CEO, as well as other co-leaders within the legal team. In this way, the internal legal team has directly and actively contributed to reaching one of the highest figures in history, in profits (around $220m), which will be further increased in 2023.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
Artificial intelligence will continue to have a large impact on the role of internal legal teams, as will the continued sophistication of business automation. Particularly in financial businesses, the market share that financial technology companies are achieving, thanks to artificial intelligence, is remarkable.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
The effects of environmental (particularly climatic) and geopolitical events that have been happening globally and locally but be overseen by those in top positions within a business. These types of events can have a negative impact on business growth and, above all, on people’s lives in general, therefore, we must all have a more active role in taking actions to try to mitigate the effect that these events generate.
