What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
The number one challenge of the past year has been to reorganise the Permits and Authorisations function. Indeed, after an 8-day temporary closure of one of our facilities due to a municipal oversight, it became clear that I needed to be directly involved in this function, I needed to appropriately prioritise the operating permits that needed to be renewed and be more proactive in interacting with management.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
Artificial intelligence (AI) will have the greatest impact on the role of in-house legal teams in the future. AI can help legal departments automate tasks and processes, reduce costs, and increase productivity. I am optimistic about the beneficial potential of AI for corporate legal teams. AI will help us minimise contractual risks and provide better legal support to our business and internal clients.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
My main concern is to maintain our licence to operate. After the presidential election of Pedro Castillo, the quality of our stakeholder regulators and operators has changed, we have lost experienced licensors. Thus, it has now become more difficult to renew or obtain any permit or authorisation, due to the shortage of licensors and additional requirements, this then imposes greater legal risks to private companies.
