What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

The pandemic led to many changes. Post-pandemic, we have learned that these changes are here to stay, some of which include an increased need for legal services, with less resources to meet them; lofty expectations for innovation and new technologies; creating and maintaining a compliance culture in an era of remote working; and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The crucial factor to take note of when handling these challenges is the attitude we use to solve and meet these demands.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

All companies need to adapt to modern technologies and demands from their customers, consumers, and stakeholders. Excluding the egal department from this process can be a big mistake.

As an internal legal team, we must listen carefully to our internal clients and learn about their needs and requirement to anticipate and act on certain innovations and technological advances that may be presented or required along the way.

Innovation is not only about digitisation processes and electronic signatures. It also requires taking care of our companies in other spheres, considering its impact on information security. that we can receive. Innovation and legal should go together – this collaboration depends on the willingness of the legal department to accept new ways of handling business and using technology.

The supervision and active presence of the legal department in all cases is essential not only for the implementation of modern technologies, but also for the management and review processes.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

As an in-house lawyer I care about the business; we are responsible for keeping the company´s operation in compliance with the law, regulations, and its own policies. However, I am also interested in ensuring compliance with the purpose and vision of the company, under the parameters of the corporate values and principles that govern them.

My cause beyond my duties, is to take care of the company’s legacy for all its stakeholders, under the umbrella of responsible practices as an employer, as a supplier and as a corporate citizen. My role is to establish and take care of the governance of the organisation under ESG criteria, thus achieving a positive impact on the social, ethical, and environmental aspects.

I believe that while we are responsible for a specific area, our overarching duty if to ensure the fulfilment of the purpose, mission, and legacy of the company.
