How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
During challenging times, we must integrate legal considerations with business imperatives. Our team conducts thorough risk assessments to identify potential legal vulnerabilities. By understanding the legal risks specific to our industry and operations, we can proactively address them. This involves close collaboration with our internal clients, including risk management and compliance.
In addition, we strive to stay informed on regulatory changes, monitor legal developments, and adapt quickly if necessary. Our legal strategy is flexible, focused on understanding the needs of our internal clients and enabling us to respond promptly to emerging challenges. We engage in scenario planning, envisioning various crisis scenarios and their legal implications. This practice helps us prepare contingency plans, allocate resources, and establish communication protocols. We actively participate in crisis management drills.
Furthermore, we encourage continuous learning within our legal team. We explore new legal trends, attend relevant seminars, and challenge conventional thinking. Our goal is to evolve and adapt, ensuring our legal strategy remains effective.
In summary, our legal strategy at Parque Arauco is not merely reactive; it is proactive, collaborative, and aligned with our business objectives. By safeguarding legal compliance, managing risks, and fostering resilience.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
I recognise the importance and the transformative impact of emerging technologies on the legal profession. Staying updated with technology is not only a matter of convenience but also a necessity in the legal profession. There are several technologies that I believe are having or will have the most significant impact on the legal profession.
Firstly, artificial intelligence (AI) streamlines manual tasks, enhances legal research, and automates contract review. AI advancements are crucial to reduce the operational workload of lawyers and allow them to focus on providing more strategic counsel to our internal clients. However, I strongly believe that this technology, as of now, is still not a replacement for lawyers.
Blockchain technology ensures secure and transparent transactions. In legal contexts, it can revolutionise contract management, intellectual property rights, and supply chain agreements. This technology can reduce time, minimise disputes, and streamline processes, thereby increasing efficiency in various businesses.
There is also cloud computing to consider. Cloud solutions enable efficient data storage, collaboration, and remote work. Since the pandemic, remote (or hybrid) work has become the new reality. Therefore, legal teams should embrace cloud-based document management systems while still ensuring data security and compliance.
Furthermore, big data analytics are and will be highly beneficial. Analysing vast legal datasets can uncover patterns, predict case outcomes, and inform strategic decisions. Legal professionals should develop their data literacy skills.
Finally, it is important to stay updated on the innovation of new tools to determine their usefulness and efficiency in the legal field and to be able to use them to our benefit.
