How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

The most important aspect is to align our strategy with that of the Bank. The legal team should be seen as a key player in the overall strategy of the organisation. All the in-house lawyers should understand the Bank’s operations and how their work directly impacts the results.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

BBVA Group has a clear commitment to sustainability. We have incorporated financial products that prioritise sustainable practices, and as a company, we have committed ourselves to diversity, community outreach, and carbon-neutral practices.

As general counsel, it is my responsibility to incorporate all sustainability rules into the contracts and other legal documents pertaining to our products. Internally, our team actively participates in all of the Bank’s different activities, especially concerning diversity policies and community outreach.
