How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
We endeavour to address the management of legal aspects through a multidisciplinary vision, focusing on a number of axes. We prioritise strengthening the legal internal control mechanisms while also strengthening our compliance tools. It is also important that we ensure the both the company’s strategic objectives and the legal department’s strategy are aligned. In addition, taking a more active role in the majority of company committees is pivotal as is strengthening the organisational culture of companies, transitioning from a reactive culture to a preventive one.
Additionally, we aim to align the commercial strategy with the legal framework by identifying new business niches with the operations and commercial departments, such as the frozen fish sales sector. Furthermore, we are exploring new business alternatives in partnership with operational areas, focusing on the sustainable extraction of untapped hydrobiological resources.
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
As a company, over the years, we have implemented several measures to incorporate sustainability practices. These include obtaining international certifications that accredit good practices in our extraction and processing activities. Through our legal department, we actively participate in promoting these practices. For instance, we conduct training sessions prior to the start of each fishing season for all our operating personnel in our plants and vessels, ensuring regulatory compliance with the regulations of institutions that supervise our activities.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
We believe that the use of AI will significantly impact the legal field. Over the years, we have been collaborating with our technology department to implement various applications for monitoring and controlling the signing and execution of our contracts. Additionally, in this year’s budget, we are allocating funds for training in the use of AI in legal activities. We believe this will help reduce costs and achieve greater efficiencies in our legal operations.
