How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Whether they are internal or external, unforeseen issues can occur, thus we must be prepared to assist the business in executing its strategic response and living up to the expectations of the business. As a result, it is imperative to focus on optimising the current processes while utilising the same workforce and resources and embracing technology.

As a legal team, we know how to advise people effectively. We aim to be known as the “protector” of the business, as well as the ally and partner of the commercial and marketing teams. After understanding the core business, we have identified that the key lies in identifying bottlenecks and providing solutions, thereby avoiding being labelled as the “NO” Team. The legal department has a wonderful opportunity to provide more collaborative support to its internal clients. Standardisation, automation, and sourcing alternatives helps us to support with greater involvement in the business as well as more focus on providing greater insights and supporting execution, which allows the legal department to add value, gaining greater trust, and developing into a truly valued area.

Moreover, it is critical to emphasise that consumers have a predisposition to favour sustainable products. Thus, it is critical to stay current on laws that prohibit greenwashing.
