Can you tell us about your journey to becoming an in-house counsel? What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?

Despite the fact that I wanted to be a lawyer since my childhood, I decided to become an in-house lawyer after my first corporate law class at UPC Law School when I was 19 years old. This class marked a milestone in my career. It was there that I fell in love with providing in-house corporate legal advice as a support for business development, and I decided to continue with this challenging profession. The following years were both challenging and rewarding, and I often felt inspired by my teachers, bosses, friends, and great mentors who contributed to my development.

In your role as an in-house counsel, what are the main responsibilities and tasks you handle on a day-to-day basis?

I provide legal support to over ten companies in the Redondos Group in corporate, contractual, and administrative law in Peru and Ecuador. In my day-to-day activities, I am actively involved in providing advice to different areas of the companies, the general manager, and shareholders as a business legal partner in transactions. Additionally, my purpose is to empower the legal department with a focus on strategic and risk mitigation opportunities.

What are some of the key challenges you have faced as a rising star in-house counsel, and how have you overcome them?

The complexity of the group’s business core and working in an environment of constant change and evolution are the aspects that I have found most challenging. Firstly, understanding the business core of each company and secondly, keeping up with new ways to provide precise and concise legal advice in crucial moments. Despite these challenges, it has been a very positive experience as it presents an opportunity to learn something new and rethink more efficient ways to propose solutions aligned with the values of the organisation.

What steps have you taken to enhance your professional development and expand your legal skill set?

I believe in continuous training as a guiding principle in the professional environment. For this reason, I pursued an LLM at Northwestern University, USA focused on Business Law, followed by a Business Administration Certificate at IE Business School, Madrid with the intention of increasing my knowledge in business financial aspects.

Additionally, from my point of view, technology is crucial in this new era of the legal profession. In my capacity as co-founder of the Latin American Association of Legal Management (Glatam), I am focused on developing the skills of in-house lawyers in new technological tools such as contract platforms, AI, and others that enhance legal management and contribute to increasing efficiency in legal operations.
