How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In critical situations, our legal department focuses on proposing alternative solutions to the problem presented through legal debate, judicial and administrative precedents, doctrine, and past experiences. These resources enable us to find the most beneficial solution for the company.
On the other hand, when the company establishes a commercial strategy, our aim as a department is to implement legal strategies that allow us to anticipate and prepare for the presence of new challenges involving the new business. This approach allows us to respond with alternative solutions quickly and efficiently.
What steps has your company taken to incorporate sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
At Gilat, we are committed to environmental and social sustainability. Several years ago, it was decided that the legal department would be responsible for directing the company’s environmental and social policy. One of the first strategies was to implement training for personnel regarding the environmental regulatory framework applicable across the different areas of the company that allows the adequate implementation of our projects.
In addition, we promote various activities in which employees can participate for the conservation of our environment. For example, we organise tree planting initiatives in areas determined by the environmental authority of our country.
On the other hand, in relation to social sustainability, our company aims to provide telecommunications and internet services to the most remote rural areas of our country. This allows the inhabitants of these areas to communicate and access a large amount of information. Furthermore, it enables them to share their own resources, thereby creating a network that provides greater opportunities for their development. Additionally, these projects include training activities in the use of digital tools and the provision of electronic devices that facilitate comprehensive connectivity.
