The Belcorp legal team comprises of 25 lawyers and is structured between six management leaders, each in charge of an area of expertise. The team is responsible for managing reputational, legal, tax, regulatory and compliance risk, together with providing legal services to all of the Belcorp business units located in 14 countries in Latin America and the US. Recently, the legal team spearheaded a corporate re-structuring of 52 entities in 16 different jurisdictions, which saw legal paired with M&A, anticorruption, GDPR, compliance, governance and transfer pricing aspects as a part of the corporate integrity and compliance strategy of the company. The leaders of each area within the corporate affairs and legal department assume responsibilities in accordance to their area of technical expertise and knowledge, working in multifunctional teams to guarantee excellence in their role as strategic partners to the corporation. This new structure also helps honour Belcorp’s fundamental purpose of “promoting beauty to achieve personal fulfilment”. Director of corporate affairs and general counsel Maria Lizzy Massa leads the legal team and promotes an atmosphere of empowerment, creativity and empathy to achieve strategic goals and engage fully with every member of the legal team. ‘We promote the best in ourselves to achieve the extraordinary, we are passionate, we truly enjoy what we do, and believe that the extraordinary is possible’, says Massa.
