What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
It is essential to be curious to learn as much as possible about the company, its culture, its people in general and its main stakeholders in particular. And it is also important to be acquainted with the market in which we work in, and with its specificities. These are the knowledges that will allow the in-house lawyer to know (i) where to get answers inside the company necessary to form its advice, (ii) how to give the best advice and also, (iii) how to communicate its advice in the most effective manner.
How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?
Making it clear that our main drive and mission is to help the business and its people and that we are always available to do that. Once we get this message to be fully understood by the business counterparts, the legal department becomes a true partner in business. And this is a quite rewarding achievement!

I’m passionate about ethical values. These are of essence in the relations between people and absolutely key in responsible and productive business.
