Leading Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s international arbitration practice from the firm’s London office, Sylvia Noury is a specialist in treaty arbitrations with a focus on emerging markets, and is an expert across a range of sectors including energy, natural resources and telecoms. Two of Noury’s most notable cases in Africa including acting for Tullow Group in an ICSID arbitration against the Government of Uganda arising from the taxation of its operations, having settled a related case arising from its production sharing agreements. Noury also acted for an East African government in two parallel arbitrations in the defence sector, involving highly political claims of corruption. She is a regular speaker at conferences, as well as the founder and co-chair of the steering committee of the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge.
