Over the last 20 years, Carlos Martinez has led several high-yield bond offerings, exchanges and restructurings for leading Mexican companies, including Copamex, Grupo Iusacell, Maxcom Telecomunicaciones, and Corporación Interamericana de Entretenimiento. As head of the Latin American practice group at Proskauer Rose, he has advised on a number of “first-of-their-kind” transactions in the Mexican market and has been widely recognized in industry awards. Back in 2002, Martinez represented The Pepsi Bottling Group in its $1.2bn acquisition of Gemex, the largest Pepsi bottler in the world outside of the United States. The acquisition was the first to test a newly introduced market securities law designed to protect minority shareholders. In 2011, he represented the shareholders of Global Drilling Capitales, a Mexican oil drilling company, in its sale to the multinational Weatherford. His work covers a range of cross-border matters, including M&A transactions, debt and equity securities offerings by Latin American issuers and a wide range of financial transactions – including bank lending, project finance, asset-backed financings and restructurings. Martinez also regularly contributes articles on Latin American legal issues, and is a frequent speaker and lecturer on a range of topics.
