Christopher Erckert is widely regarded as one of the leading individuals for Latin American project finance work. Over the course of his career, he has advised on billions of dollars’ worth of financings in the region. His recent work in Mexico has included acting as lead counsel to the North American Development Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation as the lenders in the financing of the Los Santos Solar Park project – the second largest solar facility in Mexico and a key energy-sector transaction following the reforms to the country’s energy sector. Erckert was also instrumental in helping to secure around $300m in project bonds in the first phase of the Energía Sierra Juárez cross-border wind project, which began commercial operations in 2015. Located near the US-Mexico border, the Energía Sierra Juárez plant occupies Mexican territory while making use of US powerlines. These transactions demonstrate both Erckert’s deep understanding of the Mexican energy sector and his ability to develop novel legal solutions when approaching significant projects. Erckert’s broader expertise in the energy sector has seen him work on generation, transmission and distribution agreements and act on a broad array of other infrastructure and industrial matters, including rigs, LNG facilities, gas pipelines, water treatment plant, toll roads, port infrastructure, and manufacturing facilities.
