From an anti-corruption perspective, Mexico faces complex challenges and is a rapidly changing and growing market for lawyers. As more and more Mexican companies wrestle with new anti-corruption legislation as well as seeking to compete in the global economy, they are increasingly turning to US counsel to assist in developing and implementing strong compliance programs. Ropes & Gray partner Kim Nemirow has built a practice that focuses on anti-corruption, international risk issues and white collar matters, and has considerable investigations and compliance experience in Mexico. Over her time working with and in Mexico, Nemirow has developed deep relationships with Mexican counsel and helped clients navigate extremely tricky investigations. ‘Mexico has’, she says, ‘recently enacted a very strong anti-corruption law and [is] well primed to begin enforcement of it. I look forward to seeing robust enforcement coming out of it in the next 18 months.’ Nemirow regularly advises clients on anti-corruption, sanctions and anti-money laundering risk assessments and conducts compliance training for their personnel around the world. After spending several years in Ropes & Gray’s Hong Kong office she is now based in Chicago. n
