Sabrena Silver is one of the preeminent finance lawyers in the US, advising financial institutions, funds and companies on complex domestic and cross-border financing transactions. Silver also has broad industry and geographical experience, having worked extensively in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, as well as other Latin American jurisdictions. She currently leads the firm’s Ecuador working group and is co-head of the Mexico working group. Silver has long held a personal and professional interest in Mexico, and previously studied Spanish in Cuernavaca. Silver recently advised a global financial institution on multiple domestic and international margin loans, totaling more than $3bn, for a range of borrowers in the US, Latin America, Europe and Asia. These loans were secured by US-listed shares or ADRs and non-US listed shares, adding an extra layer of complexity to the transaction. Outside of her obvious legal expertise, Silver has also been a keen advocate of ethical practice in the legal sector and a supporter of activities that stimulate social change across borders. She is co-chair of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice of the New York City Bar Association, where she has been active in the Women in the Profession Program and a backer of Abogadas MX, a women lawyer’s mentoring group. Silver has spoken at a number of conferences covering topics such as the business case for diversity and best practices for promoting it, the importance of mentors, unconscious bias and inclusive leadership.
