One of the Linklaters’ rising stars, Vijaya Palaniswamy was promoted to counsel in 2014 and made partner a year later. He has been involved in energy and infrastructure projects in Latin America since 2004 and has particular experience in structuring projects financed on a limited recourse basis. Palaniswamy’s work in Mexico to date includes advising GDF Suez, as consortium member, in relation to a $743m engineering, procurement and construction contract granted to ICA Fluor to construct the 290km southern quadrant of the Los Ramones gas pipeline, the largest energy infrastructure project in Mexico in the last 40 years. He was also a member of the Linklaters team advising a consortium of Asian and Mexican sponsors on the bidding, structuring, developing and financing of the Norte II combined cycle gas turbine plant in Mexico, a deal that represented the first such investment by Korean companies in the Mexican power sector. In addition to his broad experience of advising clients in the liquefied natural gas sector, Palaniswamy has represented a number of first-time Latin American issuers and worked across a range of matters in the development, construction, operation and financing of energy and infrastructure projects in the wider region.
