‘Very hardworking, technically very sound and well-connected in the market’ is how one client describes Alejandro Gonzalez Lazzeri, a Mexico City born lawyer who made partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in 2013. Lazzeri has since advised some of the Mexico’s largest companies on financing high-value domestic and cross-border acquisitions. Previous experience has included assisting Southern Copper with a $2bn note offering, acting for Grupo Bimbo on obtaining billions of dollars’ worth of acquisition loans, and advising Grupo México on a $275m loan to finance its acquisition of four upstream rigs to be leased to Pemex. His work for lenders in the corporate finance space is no less impressive: he acted for BBVA, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs as underwriters on a $1bn bond placement by Fomento Económico Mexicano, advised a five-underwriter syndicate on a $2.15bn note offering by Coca-Cola FEMSA, and assisted Credit Suisse and BBVA Bancomer with a $1.55bn loan to GMexico Transportes for the acquisition of Florida East Coast Holdings. Bank of America Merrill Lynch instructed him, in its capacity as lead arranger, on a $1.1bn loan to Minera Frisco to finance its purchase of AuRico Gold México from AuRico Gold. He also works extensively on project finance and acquisition finance across Latin America and the Caribbean and acts for institutional lenders, clearing banks and corporations. He also has extensive experience in securities issuances in Mexico and Argentina, where he assists both issuers and underwriters.
