For the last 25 years, Bob Kartheiser has acted for lenders and borrowers on financings, restructurings, and infrastructure development. His work has a significant focus on the emerging markets, particularly Latin America, and in the mining, infrastructure and energy sectors. He has done this both as a lawyer representing lenders and equity investors and as the head of an independent power producer’s Latin American development group, a position he held for six years. Over the years, Kartheiser and his team have been involved in some of the largest and most pioneering power projects in Mexico, including, in 2015, representing the global coordinators financing for the new International Airport in Mexico City, which will replace the existing Benito Juarez International Airport. Recently, his work in Mexico has included the representations of: Infraestructura Energética Nova, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, in connection with a $1bn multicurrency letter of credit facility; the lenders to the Norte III Project, constituting a group of commercial banks, Mexican development banks and export credit agencies and marking the last project to be financed under the old power purchase agreements in Mexico; the lenders and investors to BlackRock’s Lazaro Cardenas Port Logistics Fuel Transportation Project, and Fisterra and its owner, Blackstone, in the development of a 870 megawatt gas-fired power station in Mexico. Kartheiser’s ongoing matters include acting for the lenders in connection the first fully private refined products pipeline in Mexico.
