With particular experience in Latin American sovereign transactions, New York-based Carlos van der Heyde has practised in Argentina and Spain as well as in the US. He counts M&A, debt restructuring, financing and securities offerings as his core strengths. Clients that have instructed him on capital markets and financing transactions in Latin America include CFR Pharmaceuticals, Lan Airlines and the governments of Mexico and Argentina. His financial services clients have included Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The Mexican government instructed a team including von der Heyde on two debt offerings worth over $5bn in total. Outside of Mexico, von der Heyde regularly advises the Argentine government on its multibillion-dollar bond offerings. He also assisted the Republic of Uruguay with its $1.15bn bond offering last year and recently acted for Brazilian National Bank for Social and Economic Development (BNDES) on its $1bn green bond offering. In 2016 he was part of a team that advised the governments of Brazil, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic on $3.6bn-worth of unrelated bond offerings. In the equity capital markets space, he has acted for Cementos Pacasmayo on its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange, the first SEC-registered IPO by a Peruvian company. On the M&A side, von der Heyde was part of the team advising Chilean company CFR Pharmaceuticals on its $2.9bn acquisition by Abbott Laboratories.
