Jorge Juantorena is a partner at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton’s New York office. He joined the firm in 1992 and became a Partner in 2000. Juantorena’s practice areas include capital markets, corporate governance, and mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures. A highly-regarded player in Mexico-facing capital markets transactions, his work includes acting for notable issuers such as Pemex, and Comisión Federal de Electricidad of Mexico (CFE) and Mexico’s transport ministry. He has also been at the forefront of private sector issuances, including those controlled by multi-billiionaire Carlos Slim. He has also advised on equity offerings by Mexican corporate issuers valued at more than $11.4bn since October of 2012, including the IPOs by Macquarie Mexican REIT, Grupo Lala, Alpek, Grupo Sanborns, IEnova, Terrafina and Hoteles City Express, among others. In 2015, he was involved in all of the cross-border IPOs that took place in Mexico, including Unifin, GICSA and Nemak, and was one of the lead attorneys advising Opsimex in its inaugural debt offering.
