For the last 26 years, Bob Kartheiser has acted for lenders and borrowers on financings, restructurings, and infrastructure development. His work has a significant focus on the emerging markets, particularly Latin America, and in the mining, infrastructure and energy sectors. He has done this both as a lawyer representing lenders and equity investors and as the head of an independent power producer’s Latin American development group, a position he held for six years.

Over the past 12 months Kartheiser has led teams on project financings throughout Latin America in the transport and energy sectors, with a combined capital cost in excess of $8bn. He co-led the team representing the sponsor EVM in a 4(a)(2) private placement for $80m of senior secured notes to refinance the EVM 1 project, a 100MW open cycle gas-fired power plant in Axapusco; and the $600m bank and institutional investor financing of the EVM II project, an 850MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant in Axapusco, Mexico under development with GE as JV partner, via a 4(a)(2) private placement, term loan facility and letter of credit facility. The team also advised Arroyo Energy on the financing of a 129 MW gas-fired power plant in Mexico.

Over the years, Kartheiser and his team have been involved in some of the largest and most pioneering power projects in Mexico, including, in 2015, representing the global coordinators financing for the new International Airport in Mexico City, which will replace the existing Benito Juarez International Airport.
