Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Katiuska Bolaños is an accomplished attorney with extensive knowledge of energy regulatory affairs. With years of experience, she currently holds the position of Chief Regulatory Officer at Genera PR, where she spearheads the development of reliable, sustainable, and affordable generation strategies for Puerto Rico. Her mission is developing and implementing regulatory policies and strategies to ensure compliance with state and federal energy regulations. Katiuska is also responsible for developing compliant budgets, strategies to achieve regulatory metrics and benchmarks and resource adequacy planning in line with energy public policy. Katiuska also leads the environmental operations and compliance department at Genera with an excellent team of professionals. Her goal is to reduce pollutants that negatively affect the environment of Puerto Rico while also achieving regulatory compliance. She also works to reduce the use of fossil fuels and identify mitigation measures to benefit communities around the island until the transition to renewable energy is completed. Her north and everyday focus is to provide Puerto Rico with sustainable, reliable and cost-efficient energy.
Prior to her current role, Katiuska served as regulatory counsel for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, the largest energy public utility in the US. Her contribution was key in advancing the utility’s compliance with state laws and regulations, implementing public energy policy, and developing capital project strategies that align with federal grants and awards and also federal and local policies.
