Associate general counsel | Banco Sabadell
Could you tell us a bit about your significant successes in your role?
I have been lucky to be part of Sabadell’s founding team in Mexico. In just seven years, we positioned the bank among the Top 11 in the country. During this time, I have contributed to closing our most important deals across many industries and had the opportunity to lead the legal team across corporate banking, markets, treasury, privacy and marketing. I am focusing my development plan on increasing women’s representation in the bank within the senior leadership team. As one of the few female directives, I feel a strong duty to pave the way for future generations while delivering on Sabadell’s short and long-term goals.
In your opinion, what are the qualities and skills needed to form a strong legal team?
The basis is having associates with a solid legal framework within a business-oriented culture. I am always coaching legal and business associates to build lean processes compliant with the law and our ethical standards while reflecting a customer obsession to become a partner on each deal.
What is the biggest risk to your industry, and how are you contributing to prepare your organisation for this?
Our legal system still relies on paperwork, and the pandemic surfaced that we need to transition to a digital model. I am actively working with our customers, compliance, and legal teams to build new processes that support the new normal by creating digital instances that support our business and legal procedures when the law does not require a specific paper trail, reducing bureaucracy and improving our service levels to the company.
