Could you tell us a bit about your significant successes in your role?

Iron Mountain offers administration and management services on business information in a physical way, and currently, we are venturing into the sale of services through some digital solutions. The biggest challenge we have faced until now has been to describe to our Latin America customers the differences between Cloud and On-Premise software environments. In this sense, the negotiation of IP and the limitation of liability has been quite challenging, because we must position standard conditions in order to shorten risks.

In addition, the labour reform regarding subcontracting has also been another challenge for internal and external customers. What I find interesting about this, is searching the best alternative solutions to make a business viable, in accordance with the law.

In your opinion, what are the qualities and skills needed to form a strong legal team?

Teamwork, communication, empathy to be able to support your colleagues, keep up to date on the latest topics in the industry sector, developing quick responses and being able to negotiate and talk with counterparty lawyers, so deals can be closed quickly.

What is the biggest risk to your industry or organisation and how are you contributing to prepare your organisation for this?

As an in-house lawyer, I must be a business partner, and need to understand the needs of our business partners and external customers in Latin America, so the biggest risk would be not taking risks. Lawyers have the particularity that they need to think outside of the box. We have to co-work with sales teams and always take risks, always complying with company policies. Another important point for the company, is our goal of delivering a great service for customers through customer experience, because if we do not meet customers’ requirements, we won’t have business.
