How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

I believe that successfully navigating through periods of instability or crises is what defines true professionalism, especially in the legal field. My approach in managing legal aspects has always been focused on three key pillars.

First and foremost, the risk assessment and scenario planning come into play. Within the legal department, we conduct comprehensive assessments to identify potential liabilities, contractual obligations, regulatory and operational vulnerabilities. This full spectrum view enables us to proactively mitigate risks and align with the broader business strategy, ensuring that management is prepared to address any possible disruptions in operations, supply chain or regulatory requirements.

As the basis of my second strategy, pro-active contract management and the strengthening of networks are essential for survival in times of crisis. By minimising disputes, consolidating relationships and conserving resources, we ensure that the organisation remains focused on fostering growth rather than conflict. This approach allows us to maintain steady business development and activity, ensuring that the company emerges from challenges stronger, with a resilient foundation prepared to face future uncertainties.

Lastly, something that should never leave our side, even in troubled times: integrity, humanity, ethical principles, as well as clear and honest communication. We play a key role in ensuring compliance throughout the organisation, therefore legally protecting the organisation and reinforcing the trust of the shareholders. By supporting clear and honest communication, the legal strategy reinforces brand integrity, safeguards the company’s reputation and supports broader business resilience by promoting transparency with investors, clients and partners.

While the above strategies have served me very well throughout my entire career, helping me make a difference wherever I went, I feel deeply grateful for all the strong, wonderful people who stood by my side in all these moments. Success is just as much about surrounding yourself with quality professionals as it is about implementing strong strategies.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Emerging technologies are rapidly transforming all fields, and the legal profession is no exception. We benefit from efficiency enhancing, accuracy improvement and cost reducing.

In my line of activity, I leverage the well-known artificial intelligence (AI), smart contracts, process automation, cloud computing and collaboration platforms.

Staying up to date with technological advancements, attending conferences, participating in trainings and testing out new tools regularly has rapidly become a new lifestyle for each of us, me included.

The legal profession has a unique opportunity to reinvent itself and the emerging technologies will play an important role in this scenario. How to successfully embrace and harness these opportunities is up to each of us.
