How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
The legal department mission is to support the operating businesses and the company’s corporate functions in all aspects of legal and compliance relevant topics. The legal department strategy is to act as business partner of the management and to support them in achieving the business targets, the development and implementation of legal strategies, and integrity – the adherence to the law and to internal regulations.
In managing the legal aspects, the legal department must always align with the broader business strategy by taking part in the decision process, by creating a flexible and adapted organisation and by developing a diverse and inclusive environment. Also, the legal department must continuously improve the skills of the team in the legal field, develop the knowledge of technologies and solutions in the company portfolio and include new technologies in the legal activity. Legal department must proactively intervene to ensure the highest standards of safety and business integrity.
As the broader company strategy is to support customers in the energy transition to a more sustainable world, based on innovative products and technologies in the company portofolio, the legal department is required to understand the customer needs and the market trends and to adapt the advice and solutions to fit the customers needs. Legal department must move fast with simplicity, focus and ownership for decisions, also in uncertain conditions. Members of the legal department are encouraged to listen respectfully to learn from others and leverage the differences to innovate and find better solutions. Members of the legal team should win the trust from colleagues, customers & communities by demonstrating care for others and delivering on their promises.
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
