Team size: Three What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? We primarily work on renewable energy projects (onshore wind, hydro, and solar) in the SSA and MENAT regions. The work we do in renewable energy projects matters, and we strive for more people to have access to clean, reliable electricity. In order for us to achieve this, we need to educate people on the importance and benefits of renewable energy.How do you see the general counsel role evolving in South Africa over the next five-ten years?General counsel (GCs) need to become better business partners, driving business objectives rather than merely serving as a legal support function. They should aim to be proactive lawyers rather than reactive ones.How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners? Familiarise yourself with the business growth strategy and objectives, and align your key performance indicators (KPIs) and those of your team with the business KPIs. This will help you earn your seat at the table.
