Thought piece: The career of Susheel Kaur

Susheel is a respected and highly valued key member who is results driven, innovative and an excellent communicator who is passionate about the brand. Having 15 years of experience in the legal industry, Susheel is equipped with the desired skills and expertise in supporting the business in its pursuit of excellence, so much that she has been recognised in the local industry as the Rising Star of the Year (2021), and In-House Lawyer of the Year (2021) in the Asian Legal Business Awards 2021 (“ALB”) and by her internal peers – for the Mercedes Mobility Excellence Award 2021 (Individual Award).

Susheel has contributed significantly to business performance with her solution driven approach. Instead of providing arguments as to why something cannot work, she tries to devise solutions and advice on how to make things work. By doing so, she garners the trust and respect of her colleagues. With her legal expertise, she has helped win important cases that went to trial and has aided in the recovery of many collection cases thus contributing to the overall bottom line.

Regardless of her workload, she always keeps herself ‘online’ and is available for any request for legal support. Susheel is a team player and is always looking out for what is in the best interest of the employees in order to contribute to a positive work culture.

Susheel promoted a culture of learning, having conducted four business-relevant trainings each year, and several tone-from-the-top emails emphasising legal and compliance matters. Susheel puts a lot of effort in making her training interactive and interesting. This created not only a high-performance culture, but also a great place to work. Susheel’s constant strive to excel is truly admirable.

Susheel consistently strives to go the extra miles and exceed expectations. She demonstrates a willingness and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, while focusing on her priorities and the company’s strategic objectives. For example, she has volunteered to give her legal support to the Hong Kong colleagues.

Susheel is an inspiration to many, and her talents exceed her expertise in the legal field. This is evident in her championing of diversity and inclusion in her new role as diversity ambassador for Malaysia. Despite the continued lockdowns due to the pandemic, she put together a comprehensive plan for a week-long immersive experience in diversity which was widely recognised and became the benchmark for MBM in the region.

This virtual event was conducted with seven activities that aim to promote the Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) culture and foster work relationships whilst working remotely. The most memorable one is the talk on unconscious bias and authenticity. She did extensive research on DIB and presented the insights in an engaging way for the audience to understand and relate to.
