Chief legal officer, South and Southeast Asia | Louis Dreyfus Company
Team size: Eleven
What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?
Off-market takeover offer for Namoi Cotton Limited, an Australian listed cotton processing company. Complex transaction requiring Australian foreign investment approval as well as approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. It began initially as a scheme of arrangement but became a contested takeover offer as a result of Olam Agri making a competing off-market takeover offer for it.
Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?
Constant, open and frank communication. Sometimes a bit of mind reading.
How do you motivate and manage the other members of your legal team well?
Trust your people, empower them – and don’t micro-manage them.
What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?
Maintaining both mental and physical health. Even doing our jobs without these key prerequisites would be impossible.
