What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have recently been involved in over the past year?
As Minor’s business evolves, we are looking to transform it for increased flexibility and to better serve our stakeholders moving forward. This has meant that our work has continued to involve growth and acquisitions on the hotel and food sides of our business (with acquisitions in the Maldives and Indonesia in recent months), but also selective asset disposition and an increased focus on a concerted move into asset-light businesses. This has resulted in a significant amount of work on new hotel management agreements and restaurant franchise agreements, entry into new geographical markets and the continued evolution of our business model and new business offerings. As such, our work has involved classic growth pathways (M&A, management, and franchise agreements) as well as significant efforts on business transformation, to meet the challenges of the post-Covid economy.
Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years?
We have been significantly impacted by the introduction of various personal data protection/privacy regimes in recent years. This has required us to implement strict internal controls within our commercial and legal operations and to expend significant resources ensuring compliance with various regimes. As a business with operations in over 60 countries globally, it has been a challenge dealing with the patchwork of different national legislative regimes. Nonetheless, we appreciate and value the critical importance of data protection and privacy, and it has been a rewarding process to work to ensure the integrity of sensitive information across our brands and our business.
