Mundipharma’s emerging markets hub, based in Singapore, has had a major impact on the company’s extensive expansion in the global healthcare and pharmaceutical sector; it now has a presence in 128 countries on six continents. Rachel Corder, head of legal and compliance for Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, leads the 37-person team. She also mentioned deputy regional legal head and head of legal and compliance for Australia and New Zealand, John Eley and regional compliance head, Eman El Sharkawy as being other indispensable members of the team. Corder explains that the team has been involved in a wide range of projects over recent years. Among others, it has worked on a ‘US$100m investment in an R&D facility in Singapore, a global sponsorship deal with Manchester City Football Club, and deals for new products in the respiratory, pain, ophthalmology and wound care therapeutic areas, gene therapy for arthritis and a personalised medicine molecular profiling service’. She adds that ‘Southeast Asian operations have since grown tremendously through a number of new product acquisitions, and in Indonesia in 2016, we established a local trading company and secured the return of our iconic Betadine brand’. Central to the team’s success on these projects are its strong sense of duty and proactive business-focused internal culture. On this, Corder said: ‘We are a professional team of entrepreneurial and collaborative business partners. The diverse cultural backgrounds of our team members enables us to gain a good understanding of the business and the different business models in the respective countries in the region, and we promote teamwork by sharing the best business practices’.
