The Asia Pacific legal team at Takeda Pharmaceuticals provides full support to the company’s legal entities spread across 10 jurisdiction and services the company’s dynamic and culturally diverse workforce of 1,600 employees. Headquartered in Singapore, the team is led by experienced professional Berenice Lim and features Singapore-based lawyers Angelina Tan and Sofya Dolbina (who is on a short term assignment from Takeda’s CIS Team), as well as Korean-based Kevin Sul. Embracing a flat organisational structure, which encourages agility and innovation, the team supports landmark regional projects undertaken by the company and collaborates proactively with other business functions. Apart from providing legal support to the Asia Pacific commercial organisation, the department recently expanded its representation in Takeda’s Virtual Practice Groups to now cover the data privacy, competition law and vaccines functions. Other notable achievements over the last two years include the team’s launch of a digital legal resource website, to efficiently cater to the growing demand for legal support in the region, its work on streamlining legal services by initiating changes in the way functions interact with the department, as well as conducting legal awareness training sessions, an initiative that cemented a close alignment of the team with the rest of the business. ‘What is important to the Asia Pacific legal department is forging close collaborative relationships across with different business functions and stakeholders’, Lim says. ‘We cannot underestimate the ability of the legal department to break deadlocks and ease the way for quicker resolutions to problems. This is how we can add value to the organisation, second of course to providing sound, practical legal counsel’, she adds.
