United Overseas Bank (UOB)
UOB is a sprawling financial operation that has extensive holdings across Southeast Asia and is the third largest bank in the region by total assets. The bank had a successful 2017, noting increased year-on-year profit in the second and third quarters, and expanded in overseas markets. These projects, which included the opening of a new branch in Southwest China and the successful granting of a business licence for the company to operate in Vietnam, can be attributed in no small part to the actions of UOB’s legal team. Nominators pointed out first vice president and senior legal counsel Samantha Chong and vice president of group legal Joan Xue (formerly a legal counsel at Standard Chartered Bank), as being deserving of particular praise for their roles in the team’s success.
