The Hong Leong Financial Group Legal function is headed by Jacelyn Khoo and comprises the group legal team and the legal teams in Hong Leong Investment Bank led by Sharan Kaur, Hong Leong Assurance led by Lee Noushi and Hong Leong Bank led by Han Chin May.
Made up of a dynamic team of over 20 lawyers with diverse backgrounds and expertise, Hong Leong Financial Group Legal is defined by a culture of excellence, collaboration and growth. True to the Hong Leong brand and quality, the legal team embodies legal excellence by providing above par solid and business-centric legal expertise to the entire organisation.
The legal team provides a broad spectrum of legal expertise to the financial group companies in Malaysia, with portfolios covering core financial services work such as commercial banking, Islamic banking, investment banking, asset management, stockbroking, insurance and takaful, as well as other areas such as corporate, commercial, intellectual property, information technology, regulatory compliance, property and dispute resolution work. The legal team also oversees and provides legal guidance to overseas subsidiaries in Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Key to our functional excellence is the collaborative culture that personifies the legal team. Developing a relationship of mutual trust and confidence with stakeholders, and pro-active engagement, are fundamental to the legal team being able to deliver value as a business partner to achieve desired results whilst also safeguarding the interest of the organisation. We also practice a strong collaborative culture within the legal function, where the legal counsel work as a unified team to support one another and engage in cross-sharing of knowledge and expertise, leveraging on the expansive experience and skills of each legal counsel.
Recognising that constant growth is fundamental to a relevant and sustainable legal function, the legal team always strives to upskill and enhance their knowledge, competencies and capabilities in various aspects – not only from a legal perspective, but also on business and industry developments, market trends and landscape, new tools and ways of work, including scaling up on relevant soft and hard skills. This equips the legal counsel to play a value-added role to business as commercially savvy legal experts who are well-versed in the financial services business and industry, along with strong operational knowledge.
