Bio

Antonio Murillo Gayo is a distinguished legal expert with extensive experience in corporate law, capital markets, financial services, banking, and real estate. Over his career, he has held key leadership positions in major public companies, including IBEX 35-listed entities, serving as Head of Legal, Board Secretary, and Director of multiple organisations.

Currently, Antonio serves as the Head of Legal for Business Units and Capital Markets at Bankinter, S.A., a role he has held since 2010. He leads a multinational legal team, overseeing twelve lawyers in Spain, four in Portugal, and three in Ireland. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, he provides legal guidance across retail banking, investment banking, corporate banking, private banking, capital markets, digital banking, and ESG products. His expertise encompasses transparency and banking contracts, financial product structuring, and corporate governance. Antonio has played a pivotal role in Bankinter’s major acquisitions and expansions, including the integration of Barclays Portugal, EVO Banco, and the creation of Bankinter Portugal.

Prior to his current position, Antonio held several high-profile legal roles. From 2005 to 2010, he provided legal counsel at Metrovacesa, S.A., focusing on large-scale property transactions, financial structuring, and international investments in the UK, Germany, and France. He also led cross-border mergers and corporate restructuring initiatives. Before that, he worked as Head of Legal in the Capital Markets area at Bankinter, where he managed financial products, derivatives, investment funds, and securitisation processes.

From 2000 to 2003, Antonio was Head of Legal Services at Vallehermoso, S.A., playing a critical role in the company’s merger with Grupo Sacyr, S.A., as well as in property acquisitions, syndicated loans, and corporate reorganisations. He also served as Vice Secretary of the board of directors. Earlier in his career, he was a legal expert at Sociedad Rectora de la Bolsa de Valores de Madrid (BME Group), where he provided legal advice on securities markets and governance.

Antonio’s contributions extend beyond corporate practice. He has served as a director and board secretary for multiple financial institutions, including Bankinter Consumer Finance and Bankinter Investment. Recognised for his expertise, he was featured in the GC Powerlist Iberia 2016. He has also contributed to legal academia, lecturing at institutions such as the Madrid School of Marketing and Instituto de Empresa.

Antonio holds a Law degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he graduated with distinction. Fluent in English, he regularly engages in international legal negotiations and cross-border transactions. His career reflects a profound impact on the financial and legal sectors, shaping corporate legal strategy across Spain and beyond.
