How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Essentially, through proactivity, anticipating situations of instability or crisis that may arise (and will undoubtedly arise), foreseeing the necessary legal, contractual or business mechanisms. It is essential that the legal team is another interlocutor at the negotiation tables, so that the business and legal strategy go hand in hand from the first moment.
How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?
Through the training and awareness of the rest of the teams of the importance of these issues, as well as the impact they have, or could have, on metrics and aspects not directly linked to the concept of ESG itself.
How have you integrated technology into your legal processes, and what impact has this had on efficiency and compliance?
It is another asset in the day to day of my work. Not only has technology not harmed the work of lawyers, but it has made it possible to make work more efficient in matters of lower added value, allowing us to focus on the aspects/activities in which we can effectively provide greater value as lawyers.
What do you see as the major legal challenges for businesses in Spain over the next five years, and how are you preparing to address them?
Firstly, the existing legal uncertainty in the country. There is currently no consistent and constant regulatory framework that allows investors to trust the system.
Secondly, the lack of regulation in aspects so necessary for renewable energies to continue their development and implementation efficiently in the country (e.g. storage, hydrogen, capacity).
Third and finally, the impact that AI will have in all markets, at all levels (including the legal field).
