Juan Verdú Lázaro is a highly qualified Spanish lawyer with 30 years’ experience, mainly in listed Spanish and Swiss multinational companies. Known for his ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments in different industries, as well as for his exceptional communication skills and hands-on approach to legal management, Juan has been instrumental during his fifteen-year tenure as General Counsel, Compliance Officer and Board Secretary of the Holcim Group in Spain.

In addition to implementing a number of operational improvements that have resulted in value creation of more than €20 million for the department, Juan has contributed to the completion of major M&A deals. The former includes the implementation of a strict cost discipline culture in legal costs, the internationalisation of the team’s legal work and the strengthening of compliance awareness at local level. Examples of significant corporate transactions completed by Juan in the last three years include the acquisition of several concrete manufacturing companies in the Mediterranean markets, the acquisition of a controlling stake in a cement grinding plant on the Mediterranean coast and a precast concrete business in the northern Madrid market. Other achievements during Juan’s time at Holcim relate to his work in litigation, antitrust, compliance, corporate and contract law.

Prior to the merger of Lafarge and Holcim in 2015, Juan held a similar position at Holcim España for nine years. Prior to that, he spent a significant amount of time in legal positions based in Madrid, Frankfurt and Valencia with various subsidiaries of the Nefinsa Group, including Air Nostrum, Ursa, Uralita and Aragonesas, the latter of which he led to be sold to the Ercros Group in 2005. His first in-house management role was with the Spanish concrete and aggregates company Mavike, where he was Head of Legal between 1996 and 2000.
