Bio
Thomas Wiesner is the Chief Legal Officer and Group Company Secretary of Ferroglobe PLC, a leading producer globally of silicon metal, silicon-based and manganese-based specialty alloys, serving a customer base across the globe in dynamic and fast-growing end markets such as solar, electronics, automotive, consumer products, construction and energy. Ferroglobe is a UK PLC with a manufacturing footprint in Spain, France, the United States, Canada, Norway, South Africa, Argentina, China and Venezuela. Ferroglobe is listed on the Nasdaq stock market in the United States. Mr Wiesner is based in Madrid and London.
Mr. Wiesner has led the legal and company secretarial functions at Ferroglobe since 2020 and was part of the executive leadership team brought in to lead the company through its turnaround in 2020 and 2021, restructuring the balance sheet and increasing the share price by over 1000%. He advises on all key strategic and financing transactions, leveraging his background in corporate law. During his time at Ferroglobe, Mr. Wiesner has restructured the legal department and introduced international best practices to control costs and improve efficiency.
Prior to joining Ferroglobe, Mr. Wiesner spent a decade as an associate at leading US law firms Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in Madrid and New York. In private practice, he focused on capital markets and mergers and acquisition transactions, as well as advising US-listed foreign private issuers on compliance matters with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.
Mr. Wiesner holds a B.A. degree from Yale University and a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was Managing Editor of the Michigan Law Review. He is admitted to practice law by the State of New York and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
