What are the most significant cases or transactions in the Latin America region that you or your legal team has recently been involved in?
In February 2021, Spotify announced a sweeping global expansion to introduce Spotify to more than a billion people around the world. In the subsequent months, Spotify launched in over 80 countries including several in Latin America such as Venezuela.
Spotify’s legal team continues to work closely with the business to find and create thoughtful solutions, manage critical risks, and identify opportunities for Spotify in these countries.
The unusual business environment created by the pandemic has been swiftly followed by the Ukraine crisis, attendant supply chain costs rising and inflation. Are you now putting more emphasis on preparing for the unforeseen and, if so, what does this entail?
Spotify’s legal team monitors global and local events that may impact the business, continuously thinks of ways to innovate, and prepare for changes and works closely with the business to achieve this goal. As an example, we monitor new regulatory changes affect our business and work to ensure compliance with those laws.
What are your organisation’s plans in the Latin America region over the next 12 months and how will your legal expertise help to achieve these plans?
Spotify launched in Latin America in 2013 and, since then, has continued to expand in the region as it understands the potential for the business in these countries. As has been publicly reported, the region has outperformed in recent months and is expected to continue to grow.
Spotify’s recent sponsorship deal with FC Barcelona is one example bringing together music and football for special connection with a global community of fans with special resonance in Latin America
