About

Kurt-Jörgen Olsson has been in the role of general counsel, head of group legal and governance at IKEA since 2012, and has consolidated his reputation of considerable experience and talent in one of the most prestigious in-house legal positions in the region. One of Sweden’s most internationally recognised companies, IKEA is a world-renowned international commercial brand specialising in home and office furnishing as well as a vast range of other household products. As head of the group’s legal and governance affairs, Olsson is responsible for all of the company’s compliance systems meeting legal standards, a matter of professional integrity and reputation for IKEA, and implementing its governance initiatives, such as its pledge to be climate positive internationally by 2030. Also on this agenda is a commitment to gender balance and equality goals, which IKEA has made a key part of company strategy, as demonstrated by its recent announcement that 49% of the company’s managers are female. As general counsel, Olsson is also responsible for the management of all legal affairs of the company and he does so to an excellent standard, spanning a variety of legal practice areas and jurisdictions. Before joining IKEA – where he worked as general counsel for the company’s Centres wing between 2002 and 2012 – Olsson previously worked as the general counsel of Car Park Group, as a legal counsel for real estate company Vasakronan and the National Board of Public Building.
