Since 2010 Marcus Palm has worked for Välinge Innovation, a ground-breaking firm that is in the business of building materials utilising its worldwide-patented technology. Having been forced to deal with a number of high-importance matters in the recent past, Palm explains his involvement in ‘two acquisitions where the former owners of the company have made successful exits’, in addition to the management of ‘several international arbitrations (held at the ICC) and patent infringements procedures the last years (in US, German, French and Swedish courts)’. Alongside these matters, Palm has also imprinted his ethos on the rest of Välinge Innovation’s internal legal department – which he established and now contains five legal counsels and has the status of being ‘a crucial part of the business model and that actively participate in the development of the company’. This integration owes much to Palm’s emphasis on balancing both legal and commercial aspects of the business, which are based on the concepts of ‘innovation, patenting and licencing’. Owing to this context, where ‘commercial or legal disputes arise’ constantly owing to the company’s fast growing and expanding business, legal is involved as a ‘natural part of business development and the risk management’. He states: ‘I believe that I have a broad and comprehensive knowledge about IP rights and litigations, which combined with experience and a great interest in business enables me to take an active role in the management of our business and contribute to the progress of the company’. Before he amassed this impressive array of in-house achievements, Palm began his legal career at Advokatfirman Vinge in 2001, where he practiced for almost a decade.
