Flavio Santangelo has worked in various banks within legal and compliance positions, all of which has involved him holding a large degree of responsibility. He currently serves as head of legal and compliance, managing director and member of the executive committee for Banque Profil de Gestion, a private Switzerland-based bank, listed on the Swiss exchange (SIX). He gives his colleagues a large deal of freedom and autonomy, allowing them to independently do their job without reporting to him every day, and also encouraging them to take on other responsibilities. ‘This affected the company in the sense where my colleagues did take decisions, allowing a smoother and quicker process, also enhancing relationships with colleagues, as they were seen as “decision makers” and not only just here to report to me’, says Santangelo. Prior to this he served as head of legal and compliance at IG bank, a newly established bank, where he participated in banking license requirements, as well as the whole setup of the bank’s activities. His first job as an in-house counsel was the position he took at Gérifonds, which enabled him to go ‘from studies and theories to real working conditions and professional activities’, as well as participate in a very pivotal business deal which led to Gérifonds becoming a leader in its activity.
